Mixed Fortunes for Nyayo Rising Stars in FKF Youth League Action

Nyayo Rising Stars showcased immense grit and squad depth during their latest FKF Youth League fixtures. The U-11 squad opened with a thrilling 3-2 victory against UGA, led by a Zen Mwangi brace, but later fell 3-1 to Maringo Combined after injuries to Louis Juma and Ivan Gweth forced them to play a man down. Conversely, the U-13 squad delivered commanding performances despite missing key starters. They secured a decisive 3-0 win over Makadara Youth and battled back to earn a 1-1 draw against Maringo Combined. The teams now enter a two-week break to recover and regroup.

NAIROBI, Kenya — It was a weekend of intense competition, tactical discipline, and raw grit for Nyayo Rising Stars as their U-11 and U-13 squads took to the pitch in the latest round of the FKF Youth League fixtures held at St Pauls Primary School in Mbotela. Across four demanding encounters, the club showcased both high-octane attacking flair and exceptional squad depth, walking away with two victories, a draw, and a hard-fought loss that offered invaluable lessons for the young prospects.

U-11 Squad: Grit, Dramatics, and Tactical Adaptability

The Nyayo Rising Stars U-11 side kicked off their double-header with a thrilling display of passing football, establishing control early in their opening fixture against UGA. Sticking faithfully to their philosophy of building play cleanly from the back, the youngsters worked the ball through the phases to find space in the attacking third.
Frontman Zen Mwangi proved lethal in front of goal, opening the scoring with a well-taken brace that put UGA on the back foot. Louis Juma capped off a dominant collective display by slotting home a late third goal to seal a 3–2 victory. UGA refused to surrender easily, striking once in each half during a frantic contest that tested Nyayo’s defensive resolve until the final whistle.
However, the second match against Maringo Combined turned into a true test of adversity. Nyayo Rising Stars started brightly when Zen Mwangi delivered a moment of magic, breaking the deadlock with a spectacular volley while battling off two opposing defenders. The momentum shifted drastically when Louis Juma was forced off the pitch due to a painful foot injury, leaving Nyayo Rising Stars to play out the remainder of the first half with ten men.

Maringo Combined capitalized on their numerical advantage, piling on relentless pressure to force an equalizer in the opening minute of the second half. Nyayo’s fortunes worsened when dependable central defender Ivan Gweth sustained a foot injury following a heavy challenge from an opposing striker and had to be withdrawn. Forced to play a man down once again, midfielder Emmanuel Ochieng dropped back into central defense to plug the gap left by Ivan.

Despite the defensive strain, Maringo Combined struck twice in quick succession to claim a 3–1 win. Even while short-handed, Nyayo Rising Stars refused to sit back. Strikers Jesse and Zen Mwangi repeatedly turned their markers inside out to create clear one-on-one chances against the Maringo goalkeeper, though luck was not on their side. Despite the defeat, the technical bench drew immense positivity from the team’s ability to remain tactically competitive and mentally resolute under unprecedented numerical strain.

U-13 Squad: Squad Depth Shines in Masterclass Performances

While the U-11s fought through injury setbacks, the Nyayo Rising Stars U-13 squad delivered a commanding statement of intent, cruising through their fixtures despite missing several regular starters due to prior commitments.
In their opening match against Makadara Youth, the U-13s delivered a textbook performance from back to front, earning a decisive 3–0 triumph. Towering center-back Mading Ajang John Jok was an absolute rock at the heart of the defense. Mading not only snuffed out incoming threats to protect his goalkeeper but also served as the primary playmaker from the back, ensuring the team consistently kept the ball on the grass during buildup play.

In midfield, Joseph "Sejo" Barasa and dynamic winger Brighton Towet produced a masterclass in game management. The duo ran rings around the Makadara midfield from kickoff to the final whistle, dictating the tempo and carving open the opposition at will. Their dominance was reflected directly on the scoresheet, as Joseph Barasa, Brighton Towet, and Mike each found the back of the net to complete a comprehensive victory.

The U-13s were tested again in their second fixture against a resolute Maringo Combined side. Maringo struck early, taking a 1–0 lead in the opening minutes after catching the Nyayo defense off balance. Demonstrating the maturity of a championship-caliber group, Nyayo Rising Stars regrouped immediately. Indefatigable forward Sam Mwangi punished a defensive blunder from Maringo, reacting quickest to pounce on the error and slot home a brilliant equalizer.

The 1–1 draw highlighted the impressive quality and squad depth within the U-13 ranks, proving that the team can maintain high tactical standards even when calling upon rotational players.

Looking Ahead

With two wins, one draw, and one loss across the weekend, Nyayo Rising Stars emerge from the latest round of FKF Youth League fixtures with high morale and clear areas for growth. The players now head into a scheduled two-week break as the league management prepares the next batch of official fixtures.

The fortnight interval will allow the technical staff to refine their tactical setups ahead of their next competitive outing.
